Richard Pyle explores reef cliffs

In his TED2009 talk, Richard Pyle talks about the relatively unexplored reef cliffs, between around 200ft (60m) and 500ft (150m) feet below the ocean's surface.  Using a modified custom closed-circuit rebreathing setup, his team has started to explore this region, and has identified around 7 new species per hour.  His extrapolations indicate that there are around 2000 - 2500 new species waiting to be discovered in the indo-pacific region alone.

He also encounters some sharks, and talks briefly about death and philosophy.

It's amazing to think that we still have so much to learn about life just beneath the waves.

I recommend downloading the high resolution mp4 (240MB), from the TED page: http://www.ted.org/talks/richard_pyle_dives_the_twilight_zone.html.  Some fleeting sharks and fish details are lost in the lower resolution streaming format (below).
